Dear All passionate kitesurfers,

WE are just coming back from the biggest kitesurfing event in the south Hemisphere.  It happened Here , yes right here on the mid coast of Western Australia. Dongara, 380klms North of Perth, was the place where the sun, Elios the god of wind giving us 20/25 knots solid from 10 am, the beach and more than 350 kiters join all together to have a week end of fun.P2230355

The Event was fantastically organised by the WAKSA, The Western Australian Kitesurfing Association. With a bunch of volunteers those guys delivered a fantastic event for us to enjoy.

The location was awesome, the friendly competition were great. Imagine riding beside Pro riders’ nationals and internationals all day long and pick their brains. Being part of an Epic downwinder of 25 klms, a big air competition , a kiteloop comp, a surfers comp, body-dragging race and much more….Nevertheless that couldn’t happen without  the generosity of many sponsors… 8 kites were given away , 7 boards, trips to Bali , clothing collections….It was insane…. On top of  the kids were not getting bored, with small kite flying demo, treasure hunt and a sand castle competition. It was the place to be for the entire family.IMG_4521

Omg did I mention the Parties; yes I know we are all responsible. I may say that being able to gather re all those people for dinner was great. Great place, venue, band, drinks good atmosphere and meeting people from around the globe. Most of all the pleasure was to see so many aching bodies and still having a great smile.

Once again and for the 5th year in a row, Kitestock Western Australia ROCKS. We will indeed return next year, until then i still smile of the epic memories of riding down under. :)

P9260019Michael Bell just got back from Papua New Guinea on a Boat trip with Australia’s top freestyle riders exploring and kiting the beautiful locations that PNG had to offer here is what Michael had to say.

What was your motivation behind you going on the trip?

The Main motivation I had for attending this trip was to experience the lifestyle and culture of Papua New Guinea I also wanted to attend the trip to kite spots that had never been kited before.

What were the kiting locations like?

Every spot was flat, very flat! Steady wind, Beautiful backdrops and super friendly locals. All the kids are super friendly and love to help you set up your kitesJ

What was the boat that you stayed on?

We stayed on the Golden Dawn. Skippered by Craig his crew was fantastic nothing was too hard for the boys. The food was amazing; there wasn’t one day in which I was hungry. The Room were very spacious and comfy. The boat has a nice LCD TV and hundreds of DVDs so we were never boredPNG 108.

We heard you were sick on the trip?

Yer unfortunately I got sick for 2 days I contracted a viral infection and became best friends with the toilet bowl. I got sick right when the wind kicked in aswell! I missed a lot of riding but I still got to experience so much on PNG!

What was your favourite moment of the trip?

The whole trip was fantastic, I have many memories that I will keep with me for the rest of my life! When we first entered the Hula village seeing hundreds of kids running towards you was pretty surreal!

We heard you got a chance to experience Beetle Nut?P9300087

Beetle nut is a substance all the locals chew. Beetle nut is a drug caused from a reaction between beetle nut, mustard seeds and lime. When you combine the following you get a feeling of weightlessness and a light weight head! After doing it I probably wouldn’t do it again wasn’t really my thing I’d rather a beer!

Sum up Papa New Guinea as a kite spot for us?

Bloody AMAZING! , I have memory that will never leave me. I am very grateful that I got to experience what I did the locals are so much fun. The kiting was soooo good perfect wind perfect spots perfect backdrops and did I mention 29 degree water!!!! If you ever have the opportunity to travel to PNG id recommend it 100 percent!

Thanks  to all my sponsors

As winter begins to loosen its grip here in Western Australia the crew begin to look forward to the summer trade winds. For some riders Winter has its own rewards. Sci Anderson reflects on his winter season.

Winter is cold and it is not always the most comfortable session but you pretty much have the spots to yourself giving you plenty of room for pulling the trigger and brandishing some kite loops. This winter I was averaging 2-3 sessions a week in a real mixed bag of conditions from light wind sessions to riding on the cusp of a mushroom storm cloud. My favorite session would have to be 35-45knots on the butter flat water throwing down dome huge kite loops. Winter requires a new level of commitment to ride, but for the hardy rider the rewards are awesome.
